Fantastic!  |
I recently purchased this product (in light of all the scares) for use with Windows XP. So far I have been thoroughly impressed. No longer am I pestered by annoying pop-ups, or concerned about my computers security. The firewall controls what comes in and goes out of your computer and gives real peace of mind and the Anti Virus is Nortons easiest to use yet.Though I do not use Outlook the friend that recommended this product to me has been thrilled by the reduction in SPAM. I was also surprised at the ease of installation, with Norton 2004 recognising existing products and updating subscription times/deleting existing versions accordingly. Excellent.

As I was currently using and happy with Norton Internet Security 2003 I decided to move to the 2004 version and purchased it elsewhere before reading these reviews on Amazon. After reading them I felt like I had wasted my money before it had even arrived in the post.After a few minutes of browsing, selecting various bits of information, I felt Id give it a try anyway, more than expecting to fail dismally. Im happy to say though that my installation of Norton Internet Security 2004 went very smoothly. No reduction in performance either. Im guessing that Symantec have improved the firewall/add blocking etc features as my Internet access (dial-up 56k) now seems a little faster!! Installing onto Windows XP Home Edition this is what I did (using helpful hints and tips on the Internet from other people).... - Download all Microsoft Critical updates.
- Scan hard drives for spyware and remove **
- Switch off the Windows XP Firewall.
- Empty the Recycle bin.
- Uninstall Norton Internet Security 2003.
- Read the Norton Internet Security 2004 Readme file.
- Begin Norton Internet Security 2004 install and run the pre-install virus scan before installing the software.
- When installed, register online then allow Liveupdate to download all the updates. ** To scan/remove spyware I downloaded the excellent Adware 6 utility which is free for home users. All this worked fine on my PC. I hope you are succesful with your installation too.

Give great peace of mind |

Well i dont get it. I just cant get my head around why some people gave NIS 2004 such bad reviews. Ive just recently invested in a new PC, just modest really, nothing flash (athlon xp 2400+, 120gb hdd,56k modem, 512mb ram) with windows xp pro installed and i thought id better get some decent security software. I knew symantecs norton software was reputable so i thought id get the most up to date version of NIS that is currently available, so without getting any information on it at all i decided to get NIS 2004. What can i say? installation couldnt have been simpler. Since installing it over 4 months ago i havent reported a single problem, ive noticed a massive reduction in the amount of ads ive been getting on the net, its even stopped a few attacks as well and the anti-spam filter is spot on. The best bit though, it does all this and i can happily say that i havent noticed even the slightest hint of it slowing my system down, i even keep it running when playing processor and memory intensive games like X2 and it still runs perfectly. Overall, not a bad thing to say about it, its been running great and not a single conflict with any of my software or hardware.
